Beacuse of a beaver, I was almost killed today.

Fri Jul 10, 2009, 10:25 PM
NAOMI, READ THIS

Okay, so two of my friends (Emily and Kendra...because names are so much easier) and I were just chilling. (I had errands to run, and they said they'd come along.) We decided to walk from the mall to the beach and maybe get some ice cream then walk back to the mall where we parked the car.

As we were walking by the soccer fields leading up to the beach, we passed the pond that was beside it. Emily suddenly said, "Hey look! It's a beaver!" Kendra and I were like "Huh? Where?"

Emily pointed out the beaver to us. We were amazed we actually saw a beaver in real life! (I mean, it's Canada...but common! We were in the city...RIGHT BESIDE A MALL!) So we watched the beaver in the pond. We followed it and saw that it went through a sewage pipe. (The pipe ran underneath a road and there was water on the other side of the road.) We ran to the other side of the road to wait for the beaver. It finally came out and we orgasmed. (People walking by, noticing 3 teenagers standing by the side of the road looking at the water, thought we were nuts before the beaver came out.)

We then followed the beaver along that..er...river. (Not really a river..just like a stream? A long body of water that eventually led somewhere we couldn't figure out.) But then, the beaver swam away, and we couldn't follow it along the side of the road anymore. Walking further along the road, we hoped we could catch it coming out. We found a little pond-ish area and a place for us to stand right beside it and wait. But the beaver didn't come.

Then, we had the brilliant idea of walking further along the pond (to where there were train tracks that you had to cross to get to the beach) to see if there was another place the beaver could come out of.
(We really wanted to get a picture of it and I was the only one quick enough to remember I had a camera phone...but my memory was full and by the time I had deleted some pictures, the beaver swam off. Luckily Emily took out her camera...but just caught the beaver JUST as it was leaving. She doesn't know if her phone can hook up to the computer.)

So, of course being teenagers, we decided to skip the beach and walk along the train tracks where it looked like there would be more water and hopeful signs of that beaver (thus letting us have another chance of taking a better picture of it).

I was shit scared. Thought I'd wet myself because we were walking along the train tracks and a train might come any second. Emily and Kendra assured me we could just dodge it and jump along the side. (Only there were loads of thorn bushes and rocks and junk.)

Finally, after walking a ways, we stopped and looked to our left which was where the forest-y-swamp-thing-the-beaver-could-have-gone was. (The golf course and beach was on our right.) I think it was Kendra who pointed out a cool clearing that would be awesome to hang out in if we were drunk. We sort of stood there for a while talking about it: should we climb the fence that was there for an obvious reason and just chill?

THEN WE HEARD A LOUD WHISTLE!
A train was coming!

At that point, Kendra and Emily both joined me in being shit scared. We ran to the fence and sort of duck-and-covered. Emily climbed over it and was on the other side. Kendra and I were thinking of climbing over it, but it hurt, it was hard, we both had backpacks and the train was coming. In the end, Kendra and I went back into our duck-and-cover positions in case rocks and junk were flying and whatnot.

The train turned out to be a passenger train..and after a few seconds we stood up. Emily and Kendra waved to people. And then..the train passed us, and it was gone.

We were able to climb the fence where Emily had climbed it because the pointy things at the top of the fence were torn out of the way. Apparently other people also had a similar idea of going into that area to drink. (We found empty bottles.)

Now we found ourselves in...woods.
We thought, "Hey, there must be another way out! Maybe we'll come out the back of the mall."
We we went through the forest.
All three of us were in flip flops and shorts/capris. But yeah, long story short: We were in there for about 1.5hrs only to make a large circle backwards (because we came to a dead end) then try a different route and make a large circle back to where we started (because we're idiots).
When we decided to backtrack the first time (the second time, we didn't plan on going back to where we started), we heard a dude's voice. We turned around and there was a guy there (not really RIGHT behind us, but sort of a ways away). We asked him where he'd come from and if he knew how to get out. He didn't know.
But he was probably there to make out with the chick he was with. (My friends and I were thinking of just crashing their party and harassing them. But didn't.)

Anyway, we just climbed over the fence again and went back to the beach.

I almost forgot to mention: We ended up having SUPER dirty feet. There was a bunch of dust at one point near the end. There were loads of prickly bushes, so our legs and arms (mainly legs) had loads of cuts. (I have one on my wrist which makes me look like I tried to cut myself.) Oh, and my new JLA shirt was torn. :( (Right through Superman's head.)

We had some more adventures after we got out.
At the beach, then at the ice cream place, then at 7/11, and then at Futureshop.
